JOHN MULANEY FOR SNL HEAD WRITER
maybe that’s why NBC didn’t give him his show? they needed to keep him there?!

WARNING: RAMBLEY
So I was pretty confident that I was never gonna meet Seth Meyers yesterday. I know this theater, I’ve seen people attempt to meet performers at the stage door and fail. They keep it on lockdown.
My friend Lexie, who was also going, said she was gonna try and I (mentally) shook my head and laughed. There was no way. She bought a poster she was gonna try and get him to sign. ha.
Then Seth reaches the end of his time. It was a great show, well worth the money, I was satisfied. And he says that a friend of his made some posters that they were selling… and that he was going to be signing them.
what.
ok.
so…
what.
Elena (my gf, teehee) and I were seated orchestra level, row J… riiight by the exit. So…. I start thinking I should grab a poster. we head out, and there is the table and only like… 10 people are in line. So we get in. I find out posters were cash only and I don’t have cash… buttt there is Lexie with her poster. She joins us in line. ok
Then there is Seth Meyers. Head writer of that show I want to be a part of more than I want anything else. It’s worth noting that Elena and Lexie also share these aspirations.

THIS is when I start getting a tiny bit nervous. Usually in situations where I meet people. that’s the place all along and I have time to think and over think about what I’m gonna say, but this time it was all moving so fast. I tried calling Caitlan, another friend who saw the show from a seat further away, to tell her we were in line and I didn’t even have the time to get to her voicemail the line moved so quickly. Elena and Lexie had my take their picture first. Seth was smiley and nice to everyone, and maybe standing on his tippy toes for the picture. idk, normally I think if I had too much time to think about it I would have been super nervous but it just happened. SO FAST. I didn’t have the time to be nervous.
While I’m gearing up to take the pic, Seth Meyers says to me
“Hey, you’ve got a broadway video hoodie!”
“Yeah, I’m a fan!”
said I, totally cool and calm and collected.

I take 3 pictures and then I ask for a picture as well. it’s my turn. I give the camera to Elena and just… you know, put my arm around Seth’s back. and I’m surprisingly cool. and the pictures get taken and I thank him as he starts signing Lexie’s poster.
and there is a beat and Lexie says
“I’m gonna work for SNL someday”.
and Seth says
“I’ll watch out for ya.”
It was a really nice moment. and then I jump in and say
“ME TOO, ALL THREE OF US”.
To which, Seth replies…
…
actually, I don’t even remember what he said. Something to reiterate what he said to Lexie but including all three of us. but it was nice and comforting.
and then we said thanks, watched him get a picture with another friend of ours, and went away.
I know that not much took place… but it’s just really reassuring to see the the people you aspire to be, the people who have your dream job… they are only human. Human’s who are incredibly kind and humble and hardworkers…
and I am taller than him.
